The Consultation

The goal of the consultation is to provide the patient with clear, complete, and honest information in order to make the right choices for themselves and to ensure that they make a well-informed decision about facial esthetic surgery. This first meeting allows Dr. Samaha to appreciate the patient's concerns and goals for esthetic improvement. Similarly, the meeting allows the patient to meet the doctor and learn about his credentials, qualifications, as well as the results of his previous work. We ensure that sufficient time is scheduled to allow for a detailed discussion. Questions are welcomed and time is taken to insure that the consultation is not rushed and that no detail, regardless how small, is overlooked. The environment provided is comfortable, private, and professional.

The consultation begins with a medical history and evaluation to ensure that facial esthetic surgery is medically safe. Once the patient's goals for esthetic improvement are shared with Dr. Samaha, the options available are discussed. Dr Samaha applies his specialized expertise to perform a thorough examination of the patient's face, its proportions, and the interaction between the different facial components. With the aid of a mirror, he illustrates and explains to the patient the refinements and changes he feels would best suit the patient's facial features. All recommendations are openly discussed to further obtain the patient's input and wishes. Once the patient and Dr. Samaha are comfortable with the plan, a concise description of the procedure is provided, including the method of anesthesia to be used.

Dr. Samaha then proceeds to explain, in detail, the important steps to take in the pre-operative period in order to minimize discomfort after surgery. The post-operative course is also explained thoroughly, including recovery time and precautions necessary to optimize outcome, comfort, and safety. Although written instructions and explanations are provided, Dr. Samaha prefers to personally communicate the information to the patient and provide them the opportunity to ask questions or discuss any concerns they may have.

If the patient has further questions after the initial consultation, they are encouraged to call the office or return for a second consultation. The patient's knowledge, comfort and confidence in the procedure is of utmost importance.

Patients are frequently referred to Dr. Samaha by friends or family members who have undergone facial plastic surgery with him. Many patients are therefore already familiar with his results. However, for those patients who wish to see examples of outcomes of particular surgical procedures, "before and after" pictures are shown from Dr. Samaha's portfolio. These are photos of patients who have undergone surgery and have agreed to have their pictures shown to help other patients who are contemplating a similar procedure.

Following the procedure, close follow-up with Dr. Samaha is arranged to insure that healing is optimal to achieve the desired result. As many visits as necessary are scheduled to ensure the patient is comfortable and secure. Dr. Samaha favours having long-term follow-up with his patients to provide them the opportunity to communicate their thoughts about their experience and the long-term outcome of their procedure.
