Intense Pulse Light (IPL)
What is IPL and what can it do for me?
IPL has many uses, including the removal of brown spots and blemishes, improving the skin surface to provide a more youthful glow, hair removal, and generally improving the surface of skin that has been subjected to the sun and the passage of time. IPL is a well-established and unique technology. It is often mistaken for laser, which it is not, though there are many similarities.
How many treatments are needed?
A series of treatments are recommended and often needed to get the full benefit and attain the desired results.
Does it work?
IPL is very effective and is associated with a very high patient satisfaction. Over the course of a few treatments it brings about gradual changes and the results are increasingly noticeable. After a full course, you may notice improved texture of skin, decreased redness, more even skin color and youthful skin tone.
How long is each session? How much “down time†do I need after the session?
The sessions are short. IPL is an office procedure that lasts 15 to 30 minutes. There is no “down time†or recovery required after IPL. You should be able to return to your normal activities immediately. Some patients may experience some mild redness, but it usually disappears within a few hours.
Is it painful?
IPL treatments are generally painless. Depending on the depth and extent, mild discomfort can occasionally occur but patients report this as being quite tolerable.
Is it safe?
IPL has been used for over 15 years. It is less invasive than most lasers and, when used by an experienced operator, it has an excellent safety record.
