Certain facial muscles that are responsible for animating the face and providing expression also cause dimples or wrinkling. In certain regions of the face, this may lead to an aged look, or occasionally an angry or sad expression. Dr. Samaha uses BOTOX at his Montreal, Quebec, clinic to neutralize the ability of these specific muscles to contract, eliminating the skin wrinkles responsible for the undesired expression or signs of aging.

How are the injections performed?

Patient receiving a BOTOX injectionBOTOX has a variety of applications in medicine. It is injected using a very fine needle to minimize discomfort. The injection needs to be placed with precision into the small facial muscle responsible for the wrinkling. Therefore, detailed knowledge of the anatomy of these muscles, and an appreciation of facial esthetics are essential for a successful result.

Dr. Samaha’s field of specialty is in head and neck surgery. Our clinic, therefore, specializes exclusively in facial plastic surgery. Dr. Samaha and our registered nurse-injectors have extensive expertise in the detailed facial anatomy and possess the experience required in treating these regions.

Commonly Treated Areas

Patient at a BOTOX consultationBOTOX injections are useful in the treatment of certain areas, such as the forehead, the “crow’s feet” at the corners of the eyes, and the frown lines between the eyes. BOTOX  can also be used to revitalize several other facial areas, depending on the patient’s anatomy and needs.

Combine With Fillers

Dysport vials on a mirrorSome facial areas are best addressed with injectable skin fillers, and other skin rejuvenation methods. Therefore, to achieve optimal overall results, some patients in Montreal may require BOTOX alone in specific areas, skin fillers alone, or a combination of both. Dr. Samaha’s approach is tailored to the patient’s needs. A discussion at the time of consultation will help determine the areas to be addressed to provide the patient with the best possible result.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do BOTOX results last?

These products can create results that last between 3 to 6 months, depending on the patient and the specific region being treated.

What is the recovery?

Dr. Samaha performs BOTOX injections in the office. Patients may carry on their daily activities immediately after their visit.

What are the risks?

The active ingredient in BOTOX has been available for a number of years. When used appropriately, it is notably safe. Side effects of injections are rare. However, some patients experience localized swelling and bruising at the site of injection. Risks specific to the area being treated can be discussed at the time of consultation. Since the effect of these products is not permanent, any side effects that may be encountered, however rare, are also not permanent.

Who should not have BOTOX injections?

These products are not for everyone. Although there have been no reports of adverse effects of BOTOX on pregnant women or nursing mothers, Dr. Samaha favors delaying injections until the patient is no longer pregnant or nursing. In addition, patients with certain specific neurologic illnesses are advised against these injections.
