Charitable Work

In Canada, we are fortunate to have excellent medical schools and world class medical training and expertise available to our patients. Unfortunately, that is not the case in many countries.

Despite his busy facial plastic surgery practice in Montreal, his teaching activities, and his travels to present his experience and expertise at international conferences, Dr. Samaha feels it important to give back by helping those who do not have access to specialized expertise.

Dr. Samaha therefore participates in surgical missions, traveling, on a volunteer basis, with a team of surgeons to visit certain countries to perform reconstructive facial surgery. Just as importantly, Dr. Samaha and the team share the latest techniques with local surgeons to allow them to provide more expert skills to their patients.

On one such mission, Dr. Samaha was part of a team visiting Myanmar (formerly Burma) to perform surgery and teach local doctors his surgical techniques.

In addition, every year, Dr. Samaha also joins a team of 3-4 surgeons on a mission to Hanoi, Vietnam as part of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery’s Face to Face program. This mission consists of performing reconstructive surgery on patients who have had disfiguring accidents; patients who had skin cancer removed leaving them with a disfigurement that requires reconstruction; and children born with facial deformities. He performs these reconstructive facial surgeries while teaching local doctors the surgical techniques he employs and giving lectures and presentations.

More recently, Dr. Samaha established another mission where he will lead a team of 5 surgeons to the West Indies island nation of St. Lucia, where facial plastic and reconstructive surgery services are absent and much needed.
