Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

WHAT IS IPL AND WHAT CAN IT DO FOR ME?

IPL has many uses, including the removal of brown spots and blemishes, eliminating vessels or rosacea, and generally improving the surface of skin that has been subjected to the sun and the passage of time, thereby providing a more youthful glow. IPL is a well-established and unique technology. It is often mistaken for laser, which it is not, though there are many similarities.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?

An initial series of 3-4 treatments are recommended and often needed to get the full benefit and attain the desired results. Following these initial treatments, 1-2 maintenance treatments per year are recommended to retain the more smooth, youthful appearance achieved with the initial treatments.

DOES IT WORK?

IPL is very effective and is associated with a very high patient satisfaction. Over the course of a few treatments, it brings about gradual changes and the results are increasingly noticeable. After a full course, you may notice improvement in the texture of the skin, decreased redness, a more even skin color and youthful skin tone.

HOW LONG IS EACH SESSION? HOW MUCH DOWN TIME DO I NEED AFTER THE SESSION?

The sessions are short. In Montreal, Quebec, IPL is an office procedure that lasts approximately 30 minutes. There is no down time or recovery required after IPL. You should be able to return to your normal activities immediately. Some patients may experience some mild redness, which usually disappears within a few hours.

The only restriction following an IPL treatment is little or no exposure to the sun for approximately 6 weeks after a treatment. Furthermore, if there is minimal exposure to the sun, it is important to wear proper sunscreen protection.
